Brightening a dark cabin interior

This is a minimised 'Lite' page, want to see the real page?

What is the issue?
Yachts have a tendency to be dark below decks in the cabin area. This is particularly noticeable if teak has been used for the wood finish. When the main hatch is close it may make the environment very dark especially so on overcast rainy days.

Why address this?
A light and bright environment is much more pleasant and comfortable to live in. Anything that enhances natural light is a benefit to the vessel.

How to address this?
Replace the main companionway hatch cover with a tough transparent acrylic plastic or Perspex as presented in figure 1.

This will allow much more natural light into the vessel when closed up and also reduce some brightwork maintenance that is typical with main hatch covers.
