Securing 'down-below' lockers for heavy weather conditions

This is a minimised 'Lite' page, want to see the real page?

What is the issue?
If a yacht is enduring heavy-weather and subject to a knock-down, internal lockers tend to spill their contents into the cabin.

Why address this?
The heavy items of the lockers cascading into the cabin create a major danger for crew. Many sailors have been very seriously injured, even fatally so as Fastnet 79 demonstrated, by spilling locker contents.

How to address this?
Secure the lockers by this simple to construct and use locker fastening system presented in Figures 1-3. If you make a habit of always bolting the lockers shut and verifying they are secure when in heavy weather sailing this bolting system will make the lockers completely safe.
