Undoing seized nuts and bolts in an awkward position aboard your vessel

Be the first to comment

What is the issue?

Seized fastenings in difficult areas are a common encounter on a sea going vessel.

Why address this?

A seized fastening in an area that is difficult to address can cause major delay and damage.

How to address this?

Build specifically tailored tools to address awkward areas where reoccurring problems exist, such as the keel bolt tool presented in figure 1.
Individual sockets are very cost effective to acquire. By welding them into a long steel tubes and adding a sturdy tommy bar for leverage, tools dedicated to awkward stiff bolts may be fashioned.
