The following Sandycove initial fix waypoint will set up a final approach:

51° 40.642' N, 008° 30.722' W

This waypoint is at the outer entrance midway between Sandy Cove Island the headland of Shronecan Point.

What is the story here?
Sandy Cove resides half a mile off the entrance to Kinsale Harbour situated eleven miles southwest of Cork harbour’s entrance and eight kilometres north by northeast of the Old Head of Kinsale.

The cove provides a good anchorage that is highly protected and virtually free of all roll in most any condition. It is slightly open to the east or southeast where you might get a chop. If such weather conditions were to make the cove uncomfortable Kinsale and Oyster Haven are immediately to hand and both offer perfect protection from these quarters. The anchorage also offers straightforward access lying immediately west of the Kinsale Harbour entrance.

Please note a problem you may encounter with Sandy Cove is that it fills with yachts from Kinsale. On a sunny summers weekend it will get overrun and you can only depend on it during week days.

Why visit here?
Sandy Cove is a beautiful little bay, only a five minute drive from Kinsale. It is a wonderful place to take children and let them loose to explore. This is particularly the case if they want to play with a dingy’ - if you anchor in the neck of the bay you will stand between them and the sea.

Truly it is a wonderful place with great aspect of the countryside all round. It is perfect place for a vessel to swing peacefully on its chain for a few days.

How to get in?
Come up under the Bullman marker approximately one nautical mile on a heading of 307 degrees or approximately northwest. Head for the above listed waypoint then take a central course up between Sandy Cove Island the headland of Shronecan Point. Find a nice place to anchor.
